2/3/15 Meeting: Draw the Other Half

1. Find a photo on a magazine you would like to draw.
2. Tear out the page, cut the photo in half.
3. Tape one half to a piece of paper.
4. Using the other half as a reference, draw out the other half to make a complete picture.

BASIC TECHNIQUES

	hatching - a row of lines, all facing in the same direction. More dense and concentrated in the areas that appear darker.
	cross-hatching - similar to hatching, except with the addition of criss-crossing lines.
	contour-hatching - follows the contour, or curve or outline, of the object. In this case, the hatching is rounded to match the shape of the circle.
	scumbling - tiny, squiggly circular lines - sort of like "controlled scribbling"
	stippling - placing many, many dots on the paper to indicate shading. Probably the most time consuming of all the methods, but creates some neat effects.

When you add your shadow on the ground on the opposite side from the sunlight, put a smaller area of shadow on the ground on the sunlit side as these branches would still cast some shadows.

Important Information!

There are only three shirts and two sweatshirts left to buy. Orders will be made on a first come, first serve basis. 

The sizes are:

Two quantities- SMALL shirts

One quantity- MEDIUM shirt

One quantity- SMALL hoodie

One quantity- MEDIUM hoodie

Shirts are $15, Hoodies are $25

There is also one last MEDIUM Graphic Design Club hoodie from the limited edition 2013 original design. It will be sold for $20.

Step 1: Choose a photo of a celebrity or any portrait photo online. You may even use a photo of yourself if you want. Just be sure you can see all the details on the face (shading, tone, etc)

Step 2: On your piece of paper, make a preliminary sketch. Include your outlines (vertical line, eye line, nose line, and mouth line) 

 

Step 3: Add in the details as best as you can. 

Step 4: (Optional) Here is a video you may watch while drawing your portrait.
